KATIES HOMEMADE NOODLES

November 9, 2012 in General

Mike and I enjoyed an overnight retreat this week in Shipshewana, taking in the serenity of this Amish community.  We’d recommend the Farmstead Inn if you’re planning a trip to that area.  We meandered around Shipshewana and Middlebury, enjoying stops at various attractions, gift shops, bulk food stores and bakeries.

We visited the Dutch Country Market, home of Katie’s Homemade Noodles!  The Dutch Country Market is owned by the Norman Lehman family, who started the business several years ago with Norman’s wife Katie hand cranking homemade noodles to sell!  The demand soon became great enough that they began wholesaling their Amish handmade noodles to area businesses.   We loaded our van with boxes & boxes of noodles…We are excited to sell this delicious, quality, homemade noodle here at the Homestead!

Boil the noodles in some salted water until tender, drain, and toss with real melted butter!  For a yummy treat, top with browned buttered fine bread crumbs.  Just a little bit of salt, and you’ll be enjoying a real treat!

Try some for Thanksgiving!

PEAR CREAM PIES

November 9, 2012 in General

We were disappointed that our big ‘ole pear tree yielded ONE pear this year, and  customers have been asking for our seasonal PEAR CREAM PIE!

We were excited to find some extra pears off of another tree, and Kristi and I spent one morning peeling & slicing pears, and filling pie shells!

We are now offering a LIMITED SUPPLY of our popular Pear Cream Pies (frozen, unbaked)…just in time for your Thanksgiving table!  When they’re gone, they’re gone for another year!  Hurry in to get one.  If you don’t see one in the freezer, please ask!

Reminder…when baking a frozen pie, put on a baking sheet and allow about 1- 1/2 hours (or more) of baking time.  Be sure that the center of the pie bubbles and the topping is golden.
