Lemons & Left-overs Sale

July 23, 2012 in General

It’s another sunny ‘yellow’ day around here!  Our Lemons & Left-overs sale here at the Homestead was a buzzin’ busy event!  Customers were excited to find the bargain tables and shelves loaded with good buys!  With all of us in our lemon yellow shirts, and all of our delicious lemon treats, it was a fun way to celebrate good ‘ole summertime.  Even Nanci’s ‘baby Gwen’ joined in on the occasion…couldn’t help but snap this picture of her when I found her sitting outside in her lemon yellow sun chair!

HIGH OL’ SUMMERTIME

July 15, 2012 in General

On the homefront, 7 year old Jalen has lost both front teeth exactly
in time for fresh sweet corn! He enjoys time with our 2 cats and 1
puppy.

It feels good to get out of the kitchen, and soak in some sunshine for
lunch break! Toad & Rachel are both stepping up to the extra
responsibilities left with Jody gone this week. Notice Rachel’s wink!

What a surprise the other day, when I caught local mom Jen Allen
having lunch with all 7 of her children!! The oldest daughter Rachel
just got married in May, and lives in Lafayette. Looks like Dad is
getting a quiet break!

Let’s all hope & pray for rain this weekend!

Cookie Strips

July 13, 2012 in General

Today is a slow day so I am taking time off from the deli to write a blog! When I was younger, I noticed how much I liked to cook…so I took up the hobbie and now like to experiment on new and different dishes; however, there is one cookie recipe that I have been making for a long time now. I keep making these cookies over and over because they are so easy and fast! I thought I should share it..
Cookie Strips

1/2 c. oil
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. + 2 tbs. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chocolate chips

In a mixing bowl combine oil, sugars, egg, and vanilla. Mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to sugar mixure. Divide dough in half. On greased baking sheet, shape each portion into 15″ by 3″ rectangle. Sprinkle chocolate chips over dough. Press lightly. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes, or 8-9 minutes for crispier cookies. Cool 5 minutes. Cut with serrated knife into 1″ strips. Cool on wire rack. Pizza cutter works well to cut with. Yield: about 3 dozen

Hope these work!

Vacation Time!

July 8, 2012 in General

I’m tying up loose ends here at the Homestead!  Mike and I and our 5 girls plan to leave tomorrow on vacation…heading to Myrtle Beach for a few days, then on up to stay in a cabin nestled in the mountains of West Virginia!  We’ll catch up when we return home.  Be safe and stay cool!
